okay, first? GRAPHICS. FFVII fails at that, they all look like some sort of cross between a snowman and a kid. alsoo Quistis/Seifer lol. Also FFVII is dark in a.. not-even-I-find-appealing kind of dark. The nakakatamad kind of dark. And FFVIII's characters are waaay better developed.

I HAVE NO IDEA WHY THE HELL PEOPLE LIKE FFVII MORE. I hate it. FFVIII should've been made into Advent Children. /rant

I grew up watching both of my brothers play VII and VIII. In all honesty though IA, what's with all the hype surrounding FF7? I never quite understood it, if anything the only thing I absolutely loved about VII was THE CHOCOBO RACES. AHAHHA, they're so kyoot. \o/

IMO FF7's appeal lies in the plot (which I feel is rather complex and quite interesting) and the customization you can do with the materia. Both of the aforementioned PLUS Cloud and Sephy (I guess people think polygonal figures are sexy) make for a smash hit. I think people may have been turned off by the complexity of FF8's GF (Guardian Force, like summons) system amongst other things.

BUT, ohoho my favorite FF game of all time is FF Tactics. It has just the right amount of politics in the story line, tons of side quests and a whole bunch of job classes to choose from~

I'm playing FFVIII right now, and it IS complicated. But I'm struggling on for the story and RP purposes.xD

They have a remake of Tactics on the PSP (FFT: War of The Lions), and it's just as good as the original except for the fact that you can't really change the camera angles (makes it hard to see your enemies on the map). They added two new classes too as well as some really pretty cell-shaded FMVs.

(if you're interested , I believe there should be Dissidia out for the PSP but it's more of a fighting game though)

My brother played something FFVII related in the PSP. Not sure which one it was, but it had awesome graphics and is sort of a prequel.

And I love fighting games, but only if they're turn-based or something like FFVIII.:/
